ALAMEDA — An upcoming fundraising barbecue for the Alameda and District Heritage Museum will have a special guest.
A snow plane that was owned and used by long-time Oxbow physician Dr. Gerry Galloway will be on display at the benefit July 17 from 5-8 p.m. in front of the museum, which is located on Fifth Street in Alameda.
For a donation, people can enjoy a barbecue supper, view the historic plane, go through the plane's mobile museum and tour the Alameda museum's exhibits.
Sherlynne Best with the museum said the plane will be brought to Alameda in an enclosed cargo trailer. All of the information on the plane can be found in the mobile museum. The plane will be winched from the trailer and displayed outside.
Galloway, who was born in Alameda, had the plane for 10 years and called it The Delivery Wagon. It has been restored by Lisl Gunderman, who is Galloway's eldest granddaughter, and her husband Darrell Hunter.
Best said the museum is always available for tours, and there is no set fee to view the exhibits. People can tour the building by contacting a board member; names and numbers can be found on the museum's front entrance.
