Man becomes belligerent during arrest by EPS members

Police also called about a potential assault and attempted scam this week.

ESTEVAN —  The Estevan Police Service (EPS) arrested a man for violating release conditions and has also been investigating a reported assault.

According to the EPS report for Aug. 6, a male was found breaching his release conditions by attending a local bar. During his arrest, the EPS says he was belligerent and threatening towards the arresting officers. He was lodged in cells and attended court Aug. 7 to speak to the charges.

Also on Aug. 6, EPS members received a complaint of a potentially intoxicated male yelling at traffic on the west end of Fourth Street. He left the scene prior to police arrival, however a male matching the description provided was spoken to later in the shift. He was not intoxicated but was quite animated during the interaction with members. He was cautioned about his actions and sent on his way.

A female was reported to be stumbling and repeatedly entering and exiting a vehicle in a business parking lot. EPS members attended and subsequently arrested her for public intoxication, as she did not appear capable of taking care of herself. She was released without charge once sober.

A report was received of a suspicious female attending a residence. The individual left in a vehicle prior to police arrival and patrols following the complaint were unable to locate the vehicle.

A driving complaint came in of a semi-trailer unit following too close to another vehicle and flashing its high-beam headlights.

EPS members attended to a report Aug. 5 of an assault in progress behind a business in northeast Estevan. One of the individuals fled the scene following the altercation and was not immediately located. The matter remains under investigation.

An attempted scam was reported to EPS. No personal information or currency was lost. The potential victim communicated with their banking institution to ensure the scammer had no ability to access funds.

Police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. The residents were warned under the noise bylaw.

Thunderstorm activity during Aug. 5 nightshift resulted in several false alarms at residences and businesses.

EPS members removed two individuals from a residential property where they had set up a tent without the homeowner's permission.
