ESTEVAN — A new pickleball court has opened at Woodlawn Park after the need for more courts in the city was identified by both pickleball and tennis players.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports, and local organizers approached Woodlawn Park about constructing a court at Fresh Air Fitness. The park supported the idea, and the project moved forward.

The first step was gathering financial support from the community. After research and planning, organizers approached Tundra Oil & Gas and its sister company Kingston Midstream, which donated $25,000 to make the project possible.

Woodlawn selected the location and cleared trees to prepare the site. A concrete slab was poured, and over the summer fencing, a wind screen and a net were installed. This week, court lines were painted, and the surface is ready for play. Some signage and a special anti-slip surface coating will be added in the near future.

The court is located beside Fresh Air Fitness, directly south of Cossette Diamond’s left field. It is free to use, available anytime and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.

For those waiting their turn, organizers suggest a walk along the Pretty trails.

Anyone new to the sport can borrow paddles and balls from the park entry gate house by providing ID and a small refundable deposit.

Organizers encourage those who enjoy the new court and other park amenities to support Woodlawn Park by purchasing a pass.
