ESTEVAN — A North Battleford man, facing numerous charges after his arrest in southeast Saskatchewan, has been denied bail.
Taylor Starchief had a show-cause hearing July 28 in Estevan Provincial Court. After bail was denied, Starchief was remanded into custody and will appear by video Aug. 11 in Estevan.
Background: According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, on July 14 at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Carnduff RCMP received a report that a man was in possession of a firearm at a hotel in Carnduff.
The RCMP says an investigation determined the man threatened an individual and was in possession of a handgun. The individual did not report any physical injuries to police. Officers obtained a search warrant, entered a hotel room and arrested the accused. Police also located and seized a handgun.
As a result of continued investigation, 28-year-old Taylor Starchief from North Battleford is charged with:
- Two counts each of insecure/unsafe storage of a firearm and possessing a firearm/prohibited device while prohibited;
- Four counts of failing to comply with a release order; and
- One count each of possession of a handgun knowing he was not the holder of a licence; possession of a magazine knowing he was not the holder of a licence; unlawfully removing a serial number on a firearm; assault; uttering threats; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm knowing it was unauthorized; and overcoming resistance to the commission of an offence.
Starchief appeared in Weyburn Provincial Court on July 17 and 22.
