Photos: Roche Percee Days was an 'amazing' fundraiser

The event brought in an estimated $21,000 for upgrades to the village's hall.

ROCHE PERCEE — Roche Percee Mayor Jay Riedel is marvelling at the support shown for the inaugural Roche Percee Days.

Nearly 600 people attended the fundraiser, which took place in the historical southeast village July 12 and into July 13. Approximately $21,000 was raised for the addition of a kitchen and washrooms in the village's hall; Riedel said the amount was "phenomenal".

Thirty-six vehicles entered a show and shine. Scott and Rayanne Zieglgansberger from Centerforce Tires and Wheelzz won a People's Choice Award for their red Corvette, and donated their $180 prize back to the fundraising efforts. The 50/50 winner took home $1,000.

A barbecued lunch, children's activities, trade show, historical tours, cornhole tournament, a pig roast supper and a cabaret all attracted a crowd, he said. Some of the vendors for the trade show had to set up outside due to the number of exhibitors in the hall. The kids' area featured cotton candy, pony rides, popcorn, a bouncy castle and face painting, among other activities. An ice cream truck was on the site.

Ken Mehler brought antique peddle cars that he has been restoring for children to enjoy.

A few people said they couldn't make it due to the smoke but Riedel said it was still an "amazing" event that exceeded his expectations.

"It started out as a trade show, and it went from there," said Riedel. "We had no idea what it was going to turn into."

A shuttle service was also available for the event.

Feedback from people has been terrific, he said, and those who left told others they had a great time. And some people after the cabaret stayed around to help clean up garbage and pick up empty cans.

Riedel credited Julia Blondeau-Florell and Deanne Nelson for the work they put into the event, and he thanked all of the volunteers, donors and sponsors for their support.
