REDVERS — When the Log Cabin opens on June 1, residents of Redvers will see some changes to the local tourism board.
During last week’s regular meeting of Redvers town council, correspondence was received from Redvers Tourism, updating council on some of the changes to their group.
Laurie West-Burnham is the new manager, with Lilly Husband, Mia Fortin-Delmaire and Kara George hired for the summer months. Garry Dangstorp will also be grounds manager. As for the executive, Dawn Eilers is chair, Donna Gilbertson is vice-chair, Raylene Gordon is secretary, and Julie DeVrieze is bookkeeper. Board members include Rolande Frecon, Maurice Quenelle, Edmond Aime, Bryan Gervais, Makayla Matthewson, Leslie Churchill, Ayla Schwandt, Jen March and Ashley Mackay.
“It is great to have some new faces on the board,” noted Eilers. “This will definitely be a learning year for some of us as we look forward to what this season has in store.”
Redvers Tourism also requested grant funding from both the Town of Redvers and RM of Antler, who have both assisted with funds previously.
“This would be our third year the RM and the town have given a grant of $5,000 each in order to help with hiring a manager and general expenses,” explained Redvers CAO Tricia Pickard. “We approved that $5,000 grant, and they’ve got lots of ideas, lots of things going on, and it will be good to see.”
Draft for dog park discussed
Redvers Council had their first look at a draft for the Redvers Lions Club Community Dog Park during last week’s regular meeting of council on May 22.
“There is a Lions dog park that is going to be developed on our rec grounds,” explained Tricia Pickard, Redvers CAO. “We just wanted to have an agreement in place to talk about maintenance and different things. That is a draft copy, so it’s not approved because I still need to talk to the Lions, but it was definitely discussed that and we made a couple changes.”
Homecoming returns
How do you follow a celebration like last year’s Redvers Homecoming? It will be a high bar to match, but town staff have already been busy planning for Redvers Homecoming 2025, which will run June 27 to 29.
“We’re really excited to be having homecoming again this year,” Pickard said. “Jen (Cowan), our assistant CAO, has been busy doing a lot of those plans, and a lot of committee members and people are stepping up and taking on some programming.”
While official activities are not set in stone and a more definite schedule will be coming out in coming weeks, it will be an action-packed weekend. From slo-pitch, a ranch rodeo, a cabaret and fireworks, it will be another memorable event for the community.
