ESTEVAN, WHITE CITY — The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is set to host its Fall Training Symposium at Affinity Place in Estevan from Sept. 8 to 11.

The four-day event offers a mix of in-person courses designed to enhance the skills of front-line facility operators, volunteers and supervisors across the province.

Training sessions include arena and building maintenance, janitorial services, sports field upkeep, health and safety, human resources, and leadership. Specialty topics such as chainsaw operation, community trail building, tree preservation and fruit production are also on the schedule.

Registration fees range from $150 to $390 plus taxes, and group luncheons are included in the cost.

SPRA says the symposium is also an opportunity for participants to connect with peers through networking events offered daily.

The registration deadline is 5 p.m. on Sept. 2. More information is available at www.spra.sk.ca.

Coming this October: "Board Ready in a Day" workshops

SPRA will also host a one-day, in-person workshop this October in White City and Estevan, aimed at equipping volunteers on smaller boards and committees with governance best practices, risk management strategies, and tips for running effective meetings.

SPRA says many volunteer boards face challenges such as unclear expectations, limited capacity and outdated practices, especially following the pandemic. The “Board Ready in a Day” sessions are intended to provide practical, actionable solutions to strengthen governance, clarify roles, improve meeting productivity, and support succession planning.

Healthy boards, SPRA notes, are the foundation of strong organizations, which in turn build vibrant and resilient communities.

The events will take place Oct. 23 in Estevan and Oct. 25 in White City.
