ESTEVAN — The Midget Wrestling Warriors' (MWW) first-ever appearance in Estevan proved to be a hit.
Nearly 500 people of all ages packed the Power Dodge Curling Centre on June 26 to enjoy the professional wrestling card, which delivered five minutes and even featured a title change. Fans cheered throughout the night, and some even brought signs to support their favourite performer.
Starfire pinned champion Zoey Skye after a piledriver to win the women's title in a triple threat match that also included Dayami Ho. Earlier in the night, Skye came to the ring to issue an open challenge for her women's title. Ho came out to accept, but then Starfire also wanted to compete. The match was made and it happened after an intermission.
The main event saw MWW owner and veteran performer Short Sleeve Sampson successfully defend his world title, defeating Azrael (The Reaper) Row after delivering his inch worm and frog splash tandem finisher.
Late in the match, Sampson collided with referee Shaun King, knocking him out. Back-up referee Chris Tarnes entered the ring, but was tossed out by The Reaper, who appeared to have the match won at one point. The Reaper then went for a foreign object, but was stopped by fellow midget wrestler The Golden Boy. Sampson had time to recover and won the match, sending the crowd home happy.
The Golden Boy and The Reaper fought to a no-contest in the opening bout. With The Reaper decisively in control, Sampson ran down to help the Golden Boy, at which time the main-event title match was set. The Reaper then laid out Sampson.
Two other matches were held during the night. Reyna Maria defeated Diosa Quetzal following a top-rope hurricanrana. Also, Cobre Mora pinned Demus after a splash.
Knucklehead Promotions brought the MWW to Estevan.
