The United Way Estevan is looking to help people in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Estevan Police Service has stepped forward in support of healthcare providers at St. Joseph’s Hospital and elsewhere. The EPS has placed large messages of support that cover the back windows of certain police vehicles.

Premier Scott Moe announced on Monday that for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak hit Saskatchewan, there have been more recoveries than new confirmed cases in a single day.

Despite the closure to the public of all of Southeast College’s six campus locations, there is good work happening in the background.

Saskatchewan has four new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 253, according to the daily update released by the provincial government Monday. One hundred and sixty-nine of the cases are considered active.

A workplace incident in southeast Estevan Monday morning resulted in fires, explosions and a long day for local first responders. Members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service were notified just before 10 a.m.

There were some minor changes in their work, but the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation keeps operating.

The Warm Welcome Kitchen is going to continue operating until the end of April, thanks to the response so far to its new format. The kitchen has been providing simple meals that can be picked up and prepared since March 17.

The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has come up with a new community engagement initiative for children celebrating a birthday.

Provincial NDP Leader Ryan Meili is encouraging Saskatchewan people to begin wearing cloth masks in public, while continuing to stay home as much as possible and practise physical distancing.
