A public art display will celebrate “Our Canada: A Celebration of 150 Years”, by hanging 16 banners along the Weyburn Boardwalk for at least one year.
The Weyburn Arts Council, Signal Hill Arts Centre and the City of Weyburn are hosting the banner project.
The project will include 16 banners, featuring Canada-themed original artwork by local artists. They will be installed in September 2017 to correspond with Culture Days, to be held the weekend of September 29, 30 and October 1. During that weekend, a series of “Art Walks” will be held to tour the Boardwalk area and take in the art on display.
A booklet featuring information about each banner will be made available to anyone taking in the Art Walk. Original Artwork will also be on display during this time at Signal Hill Arts Centre.
A jury consisting of Weyburn residents will decide on the winners, who will then have their piece printed on a banner. The deadline for applications is Monday, June 19.
The Weyburn Arts Council is also planning for a “pARTy on the Hill” summer art fair, which will be held on Saturday, August 12, on the Signal Hill Arts Centre grounds.
Artists will be required to supply their own tent, if they need one. The Weyburn Arts Council/SHAC will provide a table and one chair. Each artist will receive a 10x10 area to set up his or her work in. Easels will also be available to borrow for the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
The “pARTy on the Hill” summer art fair will run 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artist set up will begin at 8 a.m. Entry fee for artists is $25 and vendor cost is $50. This money will go to cover the costs of holding the event.
