The Estevan Community Garden might not seem like the most obvious setting for an art activity, but Diana Chisholm believes it is an ideal place for creative expression.
Chisholm, who is the artist-in-residence for the Estevan Arts Council, hosted Art in the Garden on June 25. She helped participants create seed bombs.
“We have some paper pulp, and a selection of wildflower seeds,” said Chisholm. “We end up making a ball and rolling it into the seeds, and then the idea is to take it home and toss it into your garden to start growing.”
The seed bombs will add colour to a home or any other area, she said.
The idea for Art in the Garden came when Chisholm met with representatives of the Estevan Community Garden during the Seedy Sunday event in March at the Estevan Public Library. They all thought the community garden would be a good place for an outdoor art program.
Chisholm hopes Art in the Garden classes can be offered on one or two more occasions during the summer. She wants to have various events and activities throughout the community, and not just the craft room inside the Estevan Leisure Centre.
