A busy September is planned for arts and culture programs offered by the City of Weyburn. New fall hours have been introduced for the Signal Hill Arts Centre, which will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, with the office closed over lunch.
There will be new art exhibits displayed at the art galleries around town during the months of September and October. A Bart Pragnell exhibit, called “Inspired Movement”, will be displayed in the Allie Griffin Art Gallery, located in the lower level of the Weyburn Public Library. A Jaynie Himsl exhibit, called “Loose Leaves”, will be displayed in the Weyburn Credit Union Gallery, which is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays.
The City of Weyburn will have a number of activities for Culture Days, which will be held Friday to Sunday, September 29 to October 1. Two Culture Day workshops have been planned. A 3-D felting, beads, bowls and buttons workshop will be held at the Signal Hill Arts Centre, facilitated by Melanie Monique Rose, on Friday, September 29 from 5 to 6 p.m. A mural workshop, which will create a gigantic collaborative mural using an Amanda Payne photograph, and instructed by Regan Lanning, will be held Friday, September 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Pre-registration is required for both Culture Day workshops.
The public launch of the Boardwalk Banner project will be held at the Soo Line Museum on Saturday, September 30 at 2 p.m.
There are a number of other special events being planned for Culture Days. There is no charge to attend any of the Culture Days events.
The Southeast Newcomer Services will have a special program featuring dream catchers, henna tattooing, Ukrainian egg demonstration and Indian food vending, offered along the Boardwalk, on Saturday, September 30 from 1 to 5 p.m.
There will be tours and free admission at the Soo Line Historical Museum offered on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Ukrainian Canadian Culture Club will have an outdoor festival, along the boardwalk, on Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature violinist Nadia Babchouk, entertainers from the Zabutny Ukraine Dance Ensemble from Regina and there will be Ukrainian food available.
A “Canada As We See It” workshop, offered by the Hilltop Painters and the Weyburn Artist group, will be held during the months of September and October.
A special reception and sale will be held in the Signal Hill Arts Centre second floor gallery on Sunday, October 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m., and a special pointillism on river rocks demonstration by Dorothy Whitell at 2:30 p.m.
The third annual “Pop Up Gallery” will be at the City Centre Mall, located in the former Carlton Cards location, with a local artwork exhibit and available for sale. It will be open on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Weyburn Public Library will have a Cultural Fair at the 45 Bison Avenue location on Saturday, September 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. The Cultural Fair will include children and family crafts, ethnic food, and table displays from a variety of cultures within the community
