A week before the sixth season of HBO’s hit TV seriesGame of Thrones airs, Estevanites will have a chance to travel to the the world in which the series is set, the Medieval-styled Westeros, in a very delicious way.

The Estevan Public Library is planning an ages-19-and-up feast night, based on the Medieval fare depicted inGame of Thrones, and described, in delicious detail, in the book series upon which the series is based, George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. The April 17 event will be a fundraiser for library programs.

“It’s essentially a Medieval feast with a Game of Thrones-twist. We’re going to be enjoying a four-course Medieval feast,” said adult program director Victoria Utman.“We’re going to watch a little bit ofGame of Thrones, and we’re going to recap the Season Five finale."

Adult program co-ordinator Krista Larocque said an event focused on food and drink came naturally, since food plays a significant role in the writing of author George R.R. Martin.

“Often, it can be foreshadowing. George R.R. Martin almost uses food as a character or setting of its own,” said Larocque, describing how food is used to set the mood and drive the plot in the books. “We wanted to tap into that, and celebrate the new season coming up, and all the fun things that are going to be happening in the new season.”

The meal will feature offerings in each course, styled after certain cultures and locations in the world in which Game of Thrones takes place.

“It will be mainly drinks, because that’s the kind of thing that’s mentioned most in the books,” said Larocque. “We’ll have the main course from Winterfell and dessert from the south, near Highgarden, and things like that.”

Larocque added that there will be a poll for guests, where they will be allowed to speculate the fate of protagonist Jon Snow. Snow’s fate has been ambiguous after the brutal cliffhanger which ended the fifth season of the series.

“There are a lot of theories going around right now,” Larocque said with a chuckle. “We want this to be a place where people can come to talk about the books and the show. We encourage people to dress up, of course, and to just come out and enjoy a night with people who enjoy the show as much as we do.”
