Two workshops to assist front-line workers with children will be held in Stoughton by the Southeast Connection Sport, Culture and Recreation District on the weekend of June 17-18. Both workshops will be held at the Poplar Tree Inn.
The first workshop, focusing on the “High Five principles of healthy child development”, will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This one-day workshop will help leaders who work with children aged six to 12, which can include people from camp counselors to coaches and swim instructors, to improve the quality of their programs.
The leaders will learn activities and gain knowledge, tips and resources to enhance their programs as well as their relationships with children and other staff members.
Topics include bullying, conflict resolution, physical literacy, children’s mental health and moderate to vigorous physical activity. This training has been designed to meet the needs of a variety of program types, from aquatics, arts, dance and those serving aboriginal children.
The second workshop, called “Quest 2”, will be held on Sunday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will help supervisors improve risk management in children’s programs by learning how to assess and measure quality with the High Five Quest 2 tool.
Supervisors will learn how to enter their data into the High Five data base to track their organization’s progress, and identify areas of need. They will also learn how to debrief the results of the assessments with their staff in a positive way.
Both workshops will be facilitated by Shannon Seitz. To register, email to Kirsten Regel at [email protected].
