The Weyburn and District United Way is set to "Ring those Phones" for their 32nd annual Communithon this weekend at the Weyburn Comprehensive School's Cafetorium.
The 33-hour community telethon has set a goal of $140,000 this year. It is packed with tons of local entertainment for all ages, including a revived children's hour on Saturday morning.
"Kids can dress up in their Halloween costumes and we have a costume parade," said Communithon committee co-chair Karen Kennedy-Allin.
The event kicks off with opening ceremonies at 8 a.m. this morning and runs until Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m. Weyburn schools will entertain Friday morning and afternoon with other local entertainers scheduled for the remainder of the Communithon.
"The entertainment is great. We have Leah Rebrinsky, the STARS choir and Braydon Roberts," said Kennedy-Allin, adding the line up for the entire show is great.
"We encourage everyone to tune in. It's great to stream online or to watch on Access7, but it's so much better when you sit and experience it in person," said Kennedy-Allin.
The Communithon is the Weyburn and District United Way's one big fundraiser of the year that helps its 11 member agencies.
The Weyburn & District United Way has over a thousand volunteers in the annual campaign, which results in an organized one-time request for support from donors.
Funds raised are then allocated to the member agency organizations in the community. The 11 member agencies include: Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Canadian Paraplegic Association, Canadian Red Cross, Color My World Child Care, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Southeast Advocates for Employment (WASES), The Weyburn Care-A-Van Society and the Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary.
Due to on-going renovations of the Weyburn Comprehensive School, residents are asked to use the B doors to the school to access the Cafetorium.
