A two-day Farmer Info Day seminar will be held for southeast-area producers at McKenna Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 27 and 28, covering everything from crop diseases and soil fertility to making seeding plans and a marketing outlook.

Parrish  and Heimbecker is putting the two-day information event on free of charge, and are asking those interested to call to register, as a lunch will be provided for those in attendance.

The grain company had put on smaller information events before, but decided to offer a more wide-ranging information event that would be suitable for farmers throughout the southeast region, said Doug Wiebe, general manager of P&H at Weyburn.

“This is pretty big, and we’re opening this to farmers throughout the southeast,” he said. “This is something we expect to do every year.”

There won’t be a trade show with it, but Wiebe noted there will be some representatives of chemical manufacturers on hand if any producer wants to talk about their products.

There are six presentations each day, including a lunch and coffee break, with the sessions on Feb. 27 including Dr. Jeff Shoenau of the University of Saskatchewan, addressing the topic of soil fertility, and Tom Wolfe of Agrimetrix, who will talk about the top 10 sprayer design ideas from around the world.

Luke Burton of Simplot will provide a 40 Rock Fertilizer information session; Mark Mercier of Syngenta will speak on seed treatments and whether they are worth the cost; Chris Holzapfel of IHARF will talk about crop response to row spacing, and Warren Ward of the Canada Canola Council will speak about the insects that affect canola crops. Andrew Chisholm of DeKalb will talk about how to help soybeans hit their potential, and Mike Jubenville of ProFarmer will give a marketing outlook for 2018.

Tyler Freeman of P&H will provide a projection for the fertilizer industry, and Sherri Roberts of Sask. Agriculture will talk about pulse crops. Lana Shaw and Marcel Van Staveren will talk to farmers about how to decide what to grow this year, and how to grow it. Justine Cornelsen of the Canada Canola Council will provide information on canola diseases and how to fight them.
