Alida Weekly News

There are two new families who have moved and making their new home in Alida. At the time of writing this news I unfortunately do not know their names, but hopefully will rectify that shortly.

There are two new families who have moved and making their new home in Alida. At the time of writing this news I unfortunately do not know their names, but hopefully will rectify that shortly. So for now it’s just a plain – “Welcome to Alida” folks, hope you like our little town and will enjoy your new home.

Received word recently that my husband Gray’s cousin Sharon Robins’s husband Randy Lafferty of Nanoose Bay, B.C., passed away on Jan. 31. Condolences are extended to her siblings, Gerard (Jean) Robins, Darrell (Rose) Robins and Tanis (Ralph) Sommerfeld and to all other family members, including Joyce and Jackie George, Gray and Edel Cowan.

Birthday greetings are extended once again for this coming week to Christian Lemieux on Feb. 7, Don Akins on Feb. 8, Aidyn Junk on Feb. 10, April Junk on Feb. 13 and Randy McCannell on Feb. 19. “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday everyone and hope you have/had a great day!”

There are a couple of anniversaries also happening this coming week. Happy anniversary folks.

Feb. 2 was Groundhog Day – this year it was reported that the groundhog remained hidden, but later it was reported that he did not see his shadow due to much fog in the area. Since winter has been fairly nice this year I guess we can add a few more weeks and it really won’t be that bad. Guess you can just draw your own conclusions if not satisfied with this one.

The Alida community extends sincere sympathy to Brenda Lemieux and Blaine LaBatt on the passing of her brother David Bouchard, late of Fertile, on Feb. 2 at Regina General Hospital at the age of 67. He leaves behind his wife Gisele, daughter Amanda (Aaron) Kish, sons, Mitchell and Kristopher, six grandchildren, brother, Marcel (Marlene Tarr), sisters Marilyn (Fabien) Garnier and Valerie (Robert) Hansen, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Hope you all will have a Happy Valentine’s Day and of course treat your significant other with a delicious pick-up supper from the Alida Rec. Board members on Feb. 14.

It is a long weekend this coming week with Family Day being held on Feb. 15 and this in turn leads to the February school break. Enjoy your break students and staff. Making note of this long weekend leads me to believe that there will be an early deadline on Feb. 11 for the Feb. 19 issue. Then will be back to the original deadline on Feb. 22 (in the morning) for the Feb. 27 issue. Thanks for being patient with me.
