Over the Easter Break, 28 students and eight adults embarked on a 10-day tour of Europe with the Weyburn Travel Club.
They traveled with EF Tours which is an educationally-based travel company specializing in tours for youth around the world.
This year, the Travel Club went to London, Paris, Florence and Rome.
“Our club offers the chance for Weyburn youth to experience the world first-hand through tours of destinations they learn about through their schooling,” said Jody Kerr, president of the Travel Club. During their time abroad, the Travel Club got to ride the London Eye, take a ride on the Chunnel train, visit Napoleon’s tomb and pretend to be a Roman emperor in the Colosseum.
Group members included Kelsey Bax, Cassidy Davis, Payton Spencer, Olivia Barber, Rylee Chapman, Alex Wendt, Braeya Wotherspoon, Jade Hayes, Jordan Verbeem, Colton Hill, Wil Quist, David Swenson, Noah Arndt, Garrett Hoffart, Sydnie Butz, Ashley Breault, Brooke Herlick, Emma Fletcher, Avah Pokletar, Kaelynn Walkeden Keeler, Olivia Bocian, Tyla Chessal, Jordyn Thompson, Linzee Wall, Rhonda Wall, Victoria Arnold, Brooke Sterling, Andrea Kerr, Jody Kerr, Chad Fletcher, Carmen Davis, Carmen Langevin, Nicole Herlick and Miranda Spencer.
Students Olivia Barber and Emma Fletcher shared in their experiences. “Our trip started off by waking up early in the morning and making our way to the Regina Airport. From there we took three different planes to our final destination in London.
“While we were there, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of London (especially our numerous cups of British tea.)”
“Some highlights were almost getting lost in Piccadilly Circus, going on the underground, and visiting Buckingham Palace. After seeing the sights in London, we boarded our first train and went to Paris.
“Our favourite places in Paris were the beautiful Notre Dame, a river cruise on la Seine where we admired the Eiffel Tower, The Palace of Versailles, and seeing the amazing artwork at the Louvre.
“After being soaked to the bone in Paris, we boarded a night train to Milan, Italy.
“Travelling on the train to Milan was one of the major highlights of the trip. As tight as the compartments were, we had a blast hanging out and chatting all night long. As you can imagine, we didn’t get much sleep that night, partly because we stayed up talking, and partly because military personnel with dogs inspected our rooms at 2 a.m. when we crossed the border.”
“From Milan, we took another train to Florence. The sun and gelato made Italy an easy favourite. After spending time in Florence we headed to our final destination of Rome. While there, we visited the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and Piazza Navona.”
“By the end of the trip we were sad to leave but excited to be reunited with family and friends. Thanks to our chaperones Mr. and Mrs. Kerr, Niki, Chad, and our fabulous tour guide Emanuella. This is a trip that we will never forget!”
