Attendance at the second advance poll for the upcoming municipal election was once again more than 530 people in attendance throughout the evening, held at the Sun Room in the Weyburn Leisure Centre on November 5.
Paige Tenbult, Communications Coordinator for the City of Weyburn, noted that the biggest difference between the amount of people on November 5, was that there was one hour less voting time that day, when compared to the time on October 31. She noted that voters were very understanding of the wait time, especially since the majority of people voting on November 5 seemed to come in the same time frame. The longest wait time reported was half-an-hour, but once people were inside the Sun Room, it only took two to five minutes to go through the polling stations. "It was really important to us that everyone had a chance to vote safely, and have their right to vote," said Tenbult.
The municipal election date for the City of Weyburn is Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 and the regular poll will be held at the Cugnet Centre from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can find detailed information about where and how to vote on the City of Weyburn website at www.weyburn.ca/elections.
Tenbult noted that if there are voters in line at 8 p.m.on Nov. 9th -- they will still be allowed to vote, before the stations are officially closed.
The unofficial results of the municipal election will be found on the city election on election night. Once the polls have closed, the election results will be inputted from the three machines that were calculating the completed ballots. One of the machines was used for the advance polls, and will be used on Monday, Nov. 9 to calculate the mail-in ballots. The other two machines will be used at the Cugnet Centre.
Residents can also watch the City of Weyburn's Social Media page for any updates on the voting process itself.
The official results of the civic election will be declared at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020 at the election office at city hall.
