The Saskatchewan Housing Corporation has announced appointments to housing authorities in Bienfait, Carlyle, Midale and Oxbow.

Dwight Thompson and Brittany Materi have been appointed to the Bienfait Housing Authority’s board of directors. Other board members are Roxanne Bonokoski, Melody Leptich and Vivian Lindblad. Leptich is chairperson.

The Bienfait Housing Authority provides daily management of eight housing units.

The Carlyle Housing Authority provides daily management of 73 housing units.

James DeBruyne has joined the Midale Housing Authority’s board, and will serve as the chairperson. Other members of the board are JoAnn Hauglum, Myrna Koeckeritz, Betty Kramer and Ken Swenson.

The Midale Housing Authority provides daily management of 22 housing units.

Eldon Thompson has been appointed to the Oxbow Housing Authority’s board. Other members are Shannon Burnett, Cameron McNab, Yvonne Morrow and Marjorie Nyeste. Morrow is the chairperson.

The Oxbow Housing Authority supplies daily management of 51 housing units.

Saskatchewan has a network of 260 housing authorities and more than 1,400 volunteers who assist with management of housing units throughout the province for seniors, low income families and persons with disabilities.

Each housing authority is a community-based organization. Units are constructed and operated under the terms of a cost sharing agreement with federal, provincial and municipal governments.

Provincial Social Services Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor paid tribute to the volunteers who manage the social housing projects in their community.

“This local hands-on approach ensures that the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation responds effectively to the needs of each community,” said Beaudry-Mellor.

Those interested in joining the housing authority should speak with the mayor of that community. A local nominating committee recommends board members.

Applications for accommodation are available from the manager of the community’s housing authority.
