The Weyburn Police Service over the past few months have received a number of complaints of ATV’s riding on City property near the northeast part of the City. Of concern was the safety of those pedestrians using the walking path or surrounding area. On April 17, two adult drivers of ATVs were stopped and subsequently charged under the Weyburn Bylaw. Owners of ATVs are reminded that it is unlawful to ride these recreational vehicles anywhere in City limits.
• Police have received a number of complaints of mischief where parked vehicles have been damaged by what appears to be by a key. The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects or if you see anything suspicious, please call the Weyburn Police Service.
• Police would like to remind all residents that the path behind Heritage Village has been barricaded by rocks and no vehicles are allowed in that area. Police would like to ask the public to not move the rocks to gain access with their vehicles.
• Police received a report of two young females stealing two carts full of drinks and snacks from the Sports Arena on Friday. Police recovered the carts outside the Sports Arena but they were empty. If anyone has any information as to the identity of these girls please call the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
• Members of the Weyburn police received a report of a male who was threatening self harm on April 18. After an extensive search police located the male and was arrested under the Mental Health Act and transported to the hospital for treatment.
• Police responded to a local business for a report of a theft on April 19. Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle a short time later. As a result of the investigation a male found in the vehicle was charged with theft under $5,000, breach of his conditions from a previous charge and obstructing a police officer. He was remanded in custody for court the following day.
• Police responded to a reported mischief at a residence on the south side of Weyburn on Friday. The complainant’s vehicle which had been parked at the residence was found to have three tires slashed. The investigation is ongoing.
• While on patrol a member of the Weyburn Police Service stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of a local drinking establishment on Saturday. The driver displayed signs of impairment and was arrested. During the subsequent investigation the male subject refused a breath demand and was later charged with impaired and refusal to take the breath test. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
• In the early morning hours on Saturday, police responded to a domestic dispute on the east side of the city, Police were able to mediate the situation and helped separate those involved by giving one of the parties a ride to another address to spend the night.
• Police received a report that a male had threatened to physically harm another person on Saturday. During the investigation the suspect was located and arrested. He was subsequently found to have breached two conditions from a previous criminal charge. The accused was remanded in custody for court in Weyburn on April 26.
