The Benson Beef 4-H Club has started holding meetings for the 2018-19 season, with an organizational meeting Oct. 14 kicking off their year.
The club has a total of 22 members. New club members are Lucas Desautels, Tucker Hilstrom, Waylon Petterson, Alex Van de Woestyne, Caleb Van de Woestyne, Matthew Van de Woestyne and Preston Walter,
Returning members are Cooper and Lila Hale; Ellie and Charlie Hayes; Kail Hilstrom; Brody and Dane Hogg; Ryder Mantei; Mason, Nigel and Lindsay Mack; Adeline Oleshko; Haylie and Turner Petterson; and Keaton and Brody Walter.
The general leader is Brandice Petterson and the project leaders are Mallory Oleshko, Meghan Dukart, Kerri Hayes and Jesse Mantei.
Nigel Mack is the president, Mason Mack is the vice-president, Lindsay Mack is the treasurer and Brody Walter is the secretary.
During that first meeting, the club discussed what they would like to do this year and some of the topics included visiting a butcher shop, having guest speakers and learning more about judging.
The second meeting was held Nov. 4 at the Estevan Exhibition Hall and they had a special guest. Dr. David Peeace came in to collect socks for the Toasty Toes sock drive. The King Street Chiropractic and Health Centre is collecting new pairs and packages of socks until Nov. 23.
The club collected 110 pairs of socks to donate.
A show and tell session was also part of the agenda. Mason Mack talked about winning grand champion at the 4-H show and sale as a junior and receiving a belt buckle. Ellie Hayes spoke on her show cane and how to use it.
Brody Walter brought some grooming supplies and talked on how he uses them.
Oleshko and Mantei separated the youths into different groups and the cloverbuds made a collage on shelters, participated in a team building exercise with blocks and Legos and built a shelter. The older children learned about nutrition and about the steer’s stomach and digestive system.
Their next meeting is the Christmas party and they plan on playing some games, having a gift exchange and enjoying a potluck supper prepared by parents.
