ESTEVAN — Another crew of four members from the Estevan Fire Rescue Service is heading to northern Saskatchewan to combat ongoing wildfires.
In an email, Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies said the latest crew departed the Energy City in the EFRS utility truck Aug. 1 to relieve the current four-person contingent.
The latest quartet includes Firefighters John Wells, Ben Brokenshire, Colby Wainman and Darson Gunnlaugson. Wainman will be in his second stint up north, as he spent 12 days battling flames in the region in July.
"These firefighters will be up north for the next week minimum," said Davies. "The crew currently in the north will be returning tomorrow [Aug. 2] in the utility truck."
Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Luc, Lt. Tyler Stead, and Firefighters Nolan LaCoste and Nathan Rae will be returning to Estevan. LaCoste has been up north since the first Estevan crew was deployed July 14.
As of right now, Davies said the Estevan firefighters are still stationed in the Patuanak area.
