ESTEVAN — Three members of the Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) are now in northern Saskatchewan, joining another EFRS member in combatting flames from wildfires.

Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Luc, Lt. Tyler Stead and Firefighter Nathan Rae left Estevan July 26 for Patuanak to join Firefighter Nolan LaCoste in the northern Saskatchewan community; they took a wildland truck and a tanker truck with them. Three other EFRS members – Lt. Justin Herod and Firefighters Austin Dovell and Colby Wainman – arrived back in Estevan from Patuanak that night.

Herod, Dovell, Wainman and LaCoste were in Patuanak for 12 days. Engine 301D, which was taken to northern Saskatchewan as part of the first EFRS deployment, is now back in Estevan.

Estevan Fire Chief Rick Davies said the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency asked Estevan fire for a second deployment to Patuanak to continue supporting that area.

Davies said the EFRS will continue to work with the SPSA and if needed, a crew change will be performed during the Saskatchewan Day long weekend.

SaskToday will continue to have updates on the northern fires.
