The Benson 4-H Beef Club has been busy with their annual speeches and other activities.
Club members delivered their speeches on Feb. 11 at Hillcrest School. The club had four judges this year in Megan Vanstone, Nicole Dupuis, Kaitylne Graham and Jeanette Seemann.
They covered a range of topics, including hockey, friendship and a European trip. Keaton Walter finished first and Ellie Hayes was second in the cloverbud division, Brody Walter was first and Lindsay Mack was second in junior, Mason Mack was first in intermediate, and Ashley Tedford was first and Lorie Tedford was second in senior.
The winners went on to compete at districts and Keaton Walter took top spot in the cloverbud division to move on. All the kids did a great job and the judges took the time to come out and listen to the young people speak.
In March, the club had its first fundraiser of the year, with a steak fundraiser at Blackbeard’s Restaurant. Karen Mack, Mona Dukart, TS&M Supply and Power Dodge donated to the raffle table.
A regular meeting was held on March 11. They discussed their plans for the grand opening of Nelson Motors’ new building on March 16 and a Peavey Mart barbecue on April 7. The Benson Rate Payers have asked two members, Ellie Hayes and Kail Hilstrom, to give their speeches at an upcoming supper on April 11.
To cap off the meeting, members did some judging activities to prepare for achievement days and the regional show and sale later this year.
Members are getting pretty excited that the achievement days and the regional show and sale are coming up fast. They look forward in the next coming months learning about grooming, judging and showmanship.
