Members of the Benson 4-H Beef Club have been busy in recent months with 4-H speeches, calving, and preparations for their demonstration day and achievement day.

In February, the members took to the stage for their 4-H speeches. Topics included snow forts, biotechnology, football and the senior year of school. Judges Darwin Beahm and Dawn-Marie Sloan Beahm had to make the tough decision of determining the top two finishers, who advanced to districts, hosted by the Browning 4-H Club in March.

The top two in the cloverbud division were Keaton Walter and Charlie Hayes. Junior winners were Brody Walter and Lindsay Mack, intermediate winners were Ashley Tedford and Nigel Mack and the senior winners were Lorie Tedford and Emily Geisel.

In March, the club was excited with the arrival of spring, as the snow melted, the grass and flowers appeared, and the calves were born. Club correspondent Turner Petterson reported the club started planning its activities leading up to its achievement day on July 4, and the regional show and sale on July 6.

Some of the planning consists of finding the judges for the achievement day and fundraising. One fundraiser they will be having is running the concession at the Mack Auction consignment sale on June 24 at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Brody Walter attended the Farmer's Appreciation Evening in March and presented his speech, Good Things Come in Small Packages.

At the March meeting, Dane Hogg delivered his speech about his Mexican holiday.

The club helped with the District 1 4-H fundraiser at Peavey Mart in April. Correspondent Keaton Walter reports they sold hamburgers, chips and drinks and had lots of fun.

The club is thinking of ideas for a barn display to help celebrate 4-H Saskatchewan's 100th year.

In May, the club was planning its demonstration day, which happened on June 4 at Emily Geisel’s farm. Members listened to their demonstrators, did activities and then had a barbecue. Their questionnaire study guide was handed out and they studied hard.

At the end of the May meeting, club members planted flowers.
