Bird nest in buffaloberry bush

Rodney Sidloski, executive director of HELP International, shows how birds nest in a buffaloberry bush low to the ground, made possible by the large thorns on the bush which prevent the birds from being taken by predators.

Rodney Sidloski, executive director of HELP International, shows how birds nest in a buffaloberry bush low to the ground, made possible by the large thorns on the bush which prevent the birds from being taken by predators. This bush is on an 80-acre parcel of city land that was treed by HELP volunteers about a decade ago, and this is a sign the habitat is taking in this treed area. Sidloski provided tours on Sunday of the areas HELP has planted trees in, to show they should be allowed to stay a little while longer on the city-owned farm land; their lease on that land expired on Oct. 31.
