Boot drive tops more than the roof

In mid-September, the Weyburn Fire Department held the Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive with a campout atop the roof of City Centre Mall.

Firefighters Eric Lanktree, Mike Cole, and Don Struthers camped atop the City Centre mall for 36 hours, in bone chilling temperatures, to help raise awareness and $8,200 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

For another year in a row, Weyburn's Boot Drive is of the highest values raised among all Fire Services within Saskatchewan.

Local businesses that supported the camp out included City Centre Mall, LJ's Hillside Store, Boston Pizza, M&M Concessions, Smitty's and Welsh Kitchen & Bakery.

"This is just another example of this city's pride, community spirit, and commitment," said Fire Chief Steve Debienne. "I would like to personally thank all the fire fighters who were involved as well as a huge thank you to everyone who supported this great cause."

The next Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive will be held in September of 2013.
