The organizers of the book, “Breaking the Silence: Our Journeys of Healing”, are extending their deadline for stories until May 15 to allow people to still get them in to be part of the book.
The trio, including Ramona Iida, Geoff Brown and Darren Neuberger, have been receiving stories, and know there are still some stories that have yet to be sent in, and they don’t want anyone to miss this opportunity.
The book is a compilation of personal stories from area residents about dealing with mental health and addictions issues, whether they are a survivor, a family member or friend with a loved one dealing with these issues. The original deadline was May 1, but they will allow a couple of more weeks for people to submit their stories.
The organizers want to offer this book as a way of helping others out who are facing mental health or addictions issues, and to share ideas on how to cope.
Neuberger changed his email address as of May 3, for any who were going to be emailing him their stories. His new email is [email protected].
Iida’s email is [email protected], while Brown’s email is [email protected].
Local photographer Chris Borshowa volunteered to shoot a cover for the book, and had a session on Saturday with model Aspen Orsted, from which he will create the cover for the book.
Stories should be a word limit of a maximum of 1,000 words, or roughly two typed pages double-sided.
Iida said residents are also encouraged to send in any information they might have on resources that can help other people out. These resources can be about counsellors, treatments, names and numbers that can be made available to people to consider, “so people have lots of choices, for all ages, including children, youth and adults, or whether they are struggling watching a loved one” deal with some of these issues.
