Colourful bright lights heralded the arrival of the CP Holiday Train on Monday evening in Weyburn, as it rolled in just ahead of schedule.
The engine stopped just shy of the Third Street crossing, and residents walked the length of the train to see all of the lights. The stage car opened up, and singers Meghan Patrick, Tanika Charles and Kelly Prescott each came out in turn to entertain the large crowd, finishing with a Christmas tune with all three on the stage.
The crowd was greeted by Mayor Marcel Roy and MP Dr. Robert Kitchen, and CP Rail employees presented Jennifer Lorinczy of the Salvation Army with a donation of $5,500, in addition to the cash and food donations that the audience brought as donations to the site.
The Holiday Train is about 1,000 feet in length with 14 rail cars decorated with hundreds of thousands of technology-leading LED lights and the modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for the performers.
Unlike in past years when Weyburn was the end of the line for the U.S. train, this train went on from here to Regina, Moose Jaw, Swift Current and Maple Creek, with plans to finish up on Dec. 18.
