Two seminars are coming up of interest to local businesses, promoted by Community Futures Sunrise and the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

CF Sunrise will be hosting a webinar on the topic of overtime provisions under Saskatchewan’s employment standards, on Wednesday, March 14, starting at 1 p.m.

The webinar is free of charge, and will take about 45 minutes to an hour, including time for questions at the end of the session.

This is part of a series of free webinars for Saskatchewan employers, employees and organizations, offered by the Employment Standards division of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety.

This webinar discusses overtime provisions under employment standards, including discussing the rules for calculating overtime for employees who are not paid by the hour.

The CF Sunrise website, at cfsask.ca/sunrise/sunrise-events, has a webinar link and identification number for those interested in signing up.

CF Sunrise is also helping to promote an upcoming seminar by the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, entitled, “Cannabis in the Workplace”, on Wednesday, April 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at Southeast College.

This seminar will cost $60 for chamber members, or $120 for non-members, plus taxes.

The seminar will be facilitated by Karen Stokke, a human resources professional, and will provide information for employers with the coming legalization of recreational use of marijuana later this year.

Some of the topics to be covered include the history and regulatory framework, science and patient demographics, impairment, case law (medical), the issue of “reasonable suspicion”, recreational use of marijuana, drug and alcohol policies, employee benefits and insurance, and drug and alcohol testing.

Those interested can contact the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce office to register.
