The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce has two important events coming up in March.
The next Breakfast Series for the Chamber of Commerce will be on "Commercial Property Taxes and the new Reassessment." This event will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 7:30 a.m., at the Weyburn Travelodge.
Representatives from the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) will present on the new income approach to assessment. The City of Weyburn and RM of Weyburn will also be participating and helping to answer questions on how this affects business.
Then on Tuesday, Mar. 26, the Chamber will present the Golden Spike Award, during their annual President's Dinner.
Nomination forms are available at the Chamber office or online at www.weyburnchamber.com. The Golden Spike Award is presented to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteer services.
Businesses are also encouraged to purchase their tickets for the President's Dinner. In addition to being the Chamber's annual general meeting, the keynote speaker this year is Jim Hopson, CEO and president of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Hopson was approached to provide insight on the importance of history and the future, especially with the 101st Grey Cup coming to Saskatchewan this November, and Weyburn celebrating 100 years.
In other news, the Chamber is creating a 100 years of Business in Weyburn photo gallery and slide show. Businesses who have a historical photo are encouraged to submit them to the Weyburn Chamber office.
Later in April, the Chamber will host a Breakfast Series with the District Planning Commission. The District Planning Commission is a joint effort of the RM of Weyburn and the City of Weyburn. This joint panel deals with issues of regional planning and land use planning.
