Nominations will close for the Golden Spike award on Thursday, Mar. 21.

Nominations will close for the Golden Spike award on Thursday, Mar. 21.

"We have had a pretty good response from the community, with nominations that were submitted for the Golden Spike award," said Jeff Richards, manager of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber doesn't release who was nominated for the Golden Spike, however Jeff said, "these are all people who are well known in the community."

The Golden Spike Award is presented to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteer services.

The Chamber will present the Golden Spike Award, during their annual President's Dinner. The President's Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 26 at McKenna Hall.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m., followed by supper and a program. Corporate tables and individual tickets are available by contacting the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce office.

Richards said that half of the tickets to the President's Dinner are already sold.

The President's Dinner is the chamber's annual general meeting, and Richards hinted that something important might be announced by the Chamber president during this meeting.

Another exciting part of the evening will be the keynote speech from Jim Hopson, CEO and president of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Hopson will provide insight on the importance of history and the future, especially with the 101st Grey Cup coming to Saskatchewan this November, and Weyburn celebrating 100 years.

"In addition, as we look to November and the Grey Cup, we know that the City of Weyburn will be a large part of the Grey Cup celebrations," said Richards. "We are eager to hear what's in store, and how we can work together."

Nomination forms for the Golden Spike award will be available at the Chamber office or online at www.weyburnchamber.com. They will be only available until 5 p.m. on Mar. 21.
