Weyburn police received a call on Friday from a local business regarding an internal fraud. Management of the company had determined that an employee had defrauded the organization for $1,500 of goods. The subsequent investigation resulted in a 34-year-old male being arrested and charged with fraud. He was later released and will appear in court at a later date.
• Police received a complaint of a theft of motor vehicle on Saturday. The victim was trying to sell their car and let a potential buyer take it for a test drive. The suspect never returned with the car. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
• City police received a report of a fraud on May 2. The complainant had applied for a job and received a cheque from the company he was to work for with instructions to withdraw most of the money and then send the money back to the company using western union. The complainant was to keep a small portion of the money for himself. The complainant knew this was not a normal transaction and reported it to police. The complainant did not lose any money.
• City police received a complaint of mischief to the new spray park on the south side of the city on May 3. Police responded and found the fence surrounding the construction had been knocked down and the posts bent. There did not appear to be any damage to the permanent structure. The investigation is ongoing.
• Police responded to a 911 call to a local hotel on May 3. Upon arrival police found that two males were having a disagreement. Police were able to keep the situation from escalating and all parties involved went their separate ways. No charges were laid.
• Police responded to a report of an injured female outside of a residence on the east side of the city early on May 1. Upon arrival police located the individual and requested EMS to attend. The female was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital where she was treated and later released. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
• City police were called to assist EMS with a report of an intoxicated male that was causing problems on Thursday. Police assisted with transporting the male to the hospital to be checked. Once released from hospital the male was lodged in cells until sober. No charges were laid in this incident.
• Police were called to downtown residence in regard to a domestic dispute on Thursday. Police found an intoxicated male who reported he had been assaulted earlier in the evening. The male was transported to another address for the evening and an investigation into the assault allegation is ongoing.
• Police received a report that at the elementary schools often parents are double parking behind the bus, and parking on the yellow curbs when picking up or dropping off their children. Police would like remind parents to please park legally and to use the crosswalks. These times of day are very busy by the schools with pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and your help in adhering to the traffic laws helps to keep everyone safe. The Weyburn Police Service will be monitoring the school zones for these infractions.
• Police responded to a local bar after receiving a report of a disturbance outside the entrance on Sunday. Police found three intoxicated people having a verbal disagreement. Police were able to separate the parties and send two of the people on their way. The third individual, a male, was arrested for drunk in public and lodged in cells. He was later released from custody when sober.
