The Weyburn police came across a minor two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Railway Avenue and Third Street NE at about 8 p.m. on Saturday.
While there was nothing extraordinary about the collision, police wish to remind motorists of the rules governing four-way stops. In law there is no such thing as a four-way stop. Each stop sign is independent of the others and the basic rules governing any stop sign apply.
While history and convention dictate that the first stopped vehicle is the first to proceed, there is no law supporting that. Drivers still may be required to yield the right-of-way to the vehicle on the right, or to observe the right-of-way with turning vehicles.
