City police investigate assaults, accidents

The Weyburn Police Service received a 9-1-1 call reporting an assault in progress on Oct. 2. Police attended to the address to find the accused had fled the scene. The investigation determined a 30-year-old female had been assaulted. The accused, a 37-year-old male, was later arrested and charged with assault and breach. The victim did not suffer any injuries. The accused was remanded in custody for court.
City police received a report from a 24-year-old female of a sexual assault that had occurred on Oct. 1 involving a person who was known to the victim. The subsequent investigation resulted in a 37-year-old male being arrested on Oct. 4. The accused was charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, trafficking and breach of a recognizance. The accused appeared in Estevan court on Oct. 5 and was remanded in custody.
Weyburn police were called after a report of a large piece of farm equipment that was being transported had hit a railway crossing sign and a light standard in the city on Friday. Police located the driver, who had pulled over when safe to do so to call and reported the accident. No charges were laid.
Weyburn police attended to a residence in the 300 block of Third Street SE after receiving a call that a vehicle had driven into a fence and then left the scene on Oct. 3. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report of a parked vehicle being entered and items stolen on Oct. 1. No suspects have been identified.
City police received a report of an unlocked parked vehicle being entered overnight and a small amount of money stolen on Oct. 2. No suspects have been identified. The incident remains under investigation.
Weyburn police received a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Fifth Street NE and Douglas Avenue on Oct. 2. The one driver was charged with proceeding from a stop sign before it was safe to do so. No injuries were reported in the accident.
City police received a call of an intoxicated individual walking on the street on Oct. 4. Police located a 27-year-old male who was arrested and lodged in cells for his safety. The individual was later released with no charges.
Weyburn police was notified of a 69-year-old woman who was disoriented and had wandered away from family on Thursday. Police and family members searched the area until they received a call from a member of the public of a woman who appeared lost. The woman was then located unharmed and returned to the care of family members.
A member of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a vehicle stop for speeding on Friday and found the driver, a 35-year-old male, to be exhibiting signs of impairment by alcohol. The subsequent investigation resulted in the driver being arrested for impaired driving and was transported to cells. The accused was charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08 and breach of probation. The accused was later released from custody and will appear in court in November.
While on patrol on Saturday, a member of the Weyburn Police Service conducted a vehicle stop and found the driver, a 68-year-old male was impaired by alcohol. The accused was arrested and the investigation resulted in the accused being charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08. The accused was later released from custody and will appear in court in November.
