City police, RCMP hold two major traffic blitzes

On Dec. 15 approximately 800 vehicles were checked but no drinking and driving charges or traffic charges were laid. On Dec. 17, approximately 600 vehicles were checked. There were five charges under the traffic act laid, as well one person was arrested on outstanding warrants, but no charges for drinking and driving were issued.

Residents are still receiving letters, phone calls and e-mails that are part of scams. Police are reminding persons not to give out any personal information to people claiming you have won prizes or needing your identification.

On Dec. 12, police received a complaint of a suspicious person in an apartment block on Seventh Ave. S. Police located a person sleeping in the furnace room. The person was removed from the building and given a ride to his residence.

On Dec. 12 a person reported damage to his parked vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the 10 block of 11th Street and a bottle had been thrown through the back window.

On Dec. 12, some construction equipment was taken from a truck that was parked at Souris Valley.

A person reported to police that while his vehicle was parked on a parking lot in the 10 block of First Avenue S, on Dec. 13, an unknown person struck the passenger side of the vehicle and left the scene.

Police received a call of a home in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue N. being broken into on Dec. 13; a TV and a laptop computer were taken.
On Dec. 13, police received a call of a moose wandering in the area of Elks park. Police located the moose and were able to chase him out of town.

On December 14th, unknown persons cut throughout the fence of a business in the 1700 block of East Avenue. Once inside the compound, the person or persons removed a substantial amount of wire. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact Police or contact Crime Stoppers.

Occupants of a home in the 600 block contacted Police on Dec. 14.

The home owners found someone had filled their mailbox with a powdery substance. Investigation is ongoing.

On Dec. 15, police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Further investigation found the accused had been drinking. As a result the accused has been charged for driving while over .08 and impaired driving. The accused will be making a court appearance in January 2012.

Police received a complaint of a male person who had gone missing on Dec. 15. Police were able to locate the subject's vehicle at a local business. The person was located by his family the next day and returned home.

Police received a complaint of an assault on Dec. 16. A female reported that a male had punched her while she was walking home. The suspect was located by police and found to be violating his undertaking order; he also had outstanding warrants from Alberta.

City police received a call on Saturday about a person bleeding outside a business in the 10 block of Second Avenue S. Police were able to locate the subject. The person had been walking to his hotel room from a restaurant when he slipped on the ice and hit his head. He was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.

On Saturday, a bar reported problems with a person refusing to leave. Police located the subject and removed him from the premises.
Police were contacted on Saturday in regards to a person being assaulted in his home. Two persons entered a home in the 100 block of Laing Crescent and assaulted the owner. The owner did attend to the hospital for treatment. Investigation is on going.
Police attended to a domestic dispute in the 900 block of Third Street South on Sunday. One person was taken from the home and no charges were laid.
