An evening of celebration will showcase expression in colour, created during participants at the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop during “Colour Sense”.
The art exhibition and fundraiser will be held on Thursday, September 15 at the Wor-Kin Shop location at 1800 Ebel Road. The exhibit will be showcased from 7 to 9 p.m., with a special opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
The evening will also feature entertainment by Tylan Charlton.
“Colour Sense” was a six-week project with Simple with a Twist (Heather van der Breggen and Rickee-Lee Webster).
Heather and Rickee-Lee developed the “Colour Sense” project to volunteer their time to work with the participants at the Wor-Kin Shop making art that results in an exhibition with a gala evening and sale.
The six-week project included once a week instruction where each participant completes a painting using a different color each week. Each of primary colors, then each of the secondary colors results in six paintings per participant.
Heather and Rickee-Lee are also creating paintings using each colour.
During the process the participants explore the different shades and densities of the color and learn basic painting techniques and color mixing.
At the end of each session a discussion with each participant was encouraged to talk about the colour. Discussion included: How does it make you feel, how would that color taste, what smells like that color, what sound would it make, how would it feel to the touch.
The participants answers were documented and some of the answers will be used to compile their Artists statements for the exhibition.
The gala is open to the public with paintings on display and for sale. All prices will be priced under $50 and only cash or cheque will be accepted.
Harvest Pie Company pies and jams that will also be available for purchase. Proceeds are donated to the Wor-Kin shop.
