The 35th annual Communithon reached the total of $109,237 when the annual telethon for the Weyburn and District United Way went off the air at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Cugnet Centre, shy of the goal of $130,000.
The event was deemed a success, as there are still funds and pledges to come in yet to the United Way in support of their nine member agencies.
“I am very thankful for how much hard work and dedication everyone put into Communithon this year. We had amazing committee chairs who did a great job organizing Communithon. We had amazing volunteers, who went above and beyond helping behind-the-scenes. Plus, we had amazing support from local businesses, organizations and donors,” said Communithon chair and United Way president Sabrina Kraft.
Kraft felt that it was a very strong decision to have slightly shorter hours to Communithon this year. “The revised hours definitely helped us to maximize our volunteer efforts, plus to have great entertainment performing on stage.”
There were many great entertainers who performed during Communithon. Kraft especially enjoyed being behind-the-scenes for the school-aged entertainers. “I am also thankful for the support of our three house bands who entertained during Communithon.”
Kraft encouraged people to continue giving as they seek to reach the goal before the end of the year. The Weyburn and District United Way will be supporting nine member agencies in 2017.
The funds raised from the 2016 Communithon will be allocated to those member agencies in early January.
Kraft also encourages people to start thinking about next year’s Communithon. “We want to continue to adapt and evolve the fundraiser, so it gets better and better every year. So anyone who has recommendations for the future is welcome to contact myself, or any other United Way board member.”
