A revamped version of the Communithon fundraiser is set to take the stage for the annual telethon at the Cugnet Centre on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29.
“I am quite excited for the 35th annual Communithon for the Weyburn and District United Way. I have had great support this year from the Communithon committee and the United Way board, and we are truly following our theme of ‘Let’s Work Together’ to host another successful Communithon,” said Sabrina Kraft, chair of Communithon and president of the Weyburn and District United Way.
The fundraising goal for this year’s Communithon is $130,000 to help support their nine member agencies.
The member agencies are the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Weyburn, Canada Mental Health, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan Inc., Canadian Red Cross, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Weyburn Care-A-Van Society, the Sask. Abilities Council and Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary.
Live entertainment will be featured from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, with school groups taking much of the schedule in the morning and afternoon, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. It will be televised and streamed online by Access 7.
“These hours are different from past years, because Communithon continues to evolve over the years. This new format will maximize the volunteer commitment that will be provided, while also featuring our nine member agencies and shining a light on local talent,” said Kraft.
The entertainment will feature many of the local schools during Friday morning and afternoon, plus talented local groups and individuals throughout Friday evening and Saturday morning. There will be three house bands featured during Communithon this year: Private Drive, The Thryme and Orange Clam Clan.
“I really encourage local residents to come down to the Cugnet Centre during Communithon and check out the amazing local talent,” said Kraft.
Donations will be taken on site, by phone at 306-504-4625 (GOAL), or online at www.weyburnunitedway.com.
“The Communithon is the only fundraiser of the year for the United Way, and the funds donated help support these amazing member agencies, so your support is appreciated,” said Kraft.
