The Parents Night and Awards Night will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, starting at 7 p.m. in the Cugnet Centre. Academic Awards for Honour Rolls for this year’s Grade 8-12’s will be given out, and then parents will be able to ask questions and visit their student’s home room. All parents are invited out.
In sports, the football team hosted Moose Jaw Vanier on Tuesday, and then will go to either Swift Current or Moose Jaw for a playoff game on Saturday. The Co-op Volleyball Challenge will continue in Estevan on Wednesday with Weyburn having a 2-0 lead in the series. On the weekend there are a number of tournaments with the senior girls in Saskatoon, the senior boys in Prince Albert, the junior boys in Balgonie, the freshman boys in Medicine Hat and the junior girls hosting a tournament here in Weyburn. Ten members of the WCS cross-country team will be attending the SHSAA Provincial Championship in Turtleford on Saturday.
It was just announced that WCS will be hosting the SHSAA 3A Regional Boys Soccer Playoffs on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20 and 21. There will be three teams involved – Balgonie, Yorkton Regional and Weyburn. Games are at 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 noon on Saturday at Jubilee Park.
The Community Blitz for Community Cards will be held on Monday, Oct. 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. School team members will be fanning out over the city to sell the cards for $20 to support SRC events here at WCS. This is a critical fundraiser to raise much needed funds for the students to enjoy the extensive extra-curricular programs at WCS that have ever-increasing costs. It is one of the few fundraisers where you can recoup easily the cost of the card by supporting local businesses.
There is no school on Friday, Oct. 13, as the teaching staff has a Professional Development Day.
