Fans of the Canadian comedy Corner Gas can take in a self-guided walking tour of Rouleau to see some of the places used in the town in the filming of the popular series.
The producers of Corner Gas, along with representatives of the Town of Rouleau, launched the self-guided tour on July 5, after the original set for Corner Gas, including the gas station and The Ruby restaurant, were taken down in November 2016 due to structural issues.
The set was built in 2003 as temporary structures for shooting 13 episodes of the comedy, and ended up being extended for six seasons, with 107 episodes altogether, along with Corner Gas: The Movie. A new animated version of Corner Gas will be launched in 2018 on The Comedy Network. During the series, Rouleau was known as the fictional town of Dog River, and series creator Brent Butt played the lead character, Brent Leroy.
The digitally interactive self-guided tour includes the town hall, downtown Dog River, Oscar and Emma’s house, the original site of the gas station and The Ruby, the grain elevator, water tower and Corner Gas character cutouts for photo opportunities.
“Corner Gas fans can visit our town and enjoy the digitally interactive, self-guided Dog River walking tour with a sneak peek of the locations as they appear in the new animated series,” said Mayor Grant Clarke, adding that Rouleau will continue to be a tourist destination with the new animated series to start in 2018.
Detailed maps of the walking tour are located at points of interest on the tour, and postcard-sized maps of the tour are available at the Rouleau Community Complex, Tourism Regina, Tourism Moose Jaw and at the Moose Jaw Western Development Museum.
The map and animated images of Dog River sites are available at cornergas.com.
Visitors can use their smartphones to scan QR codes for behind-the-scenes details, depictions of the site in the series, the movie and the animated series.
Those who take the tour are encouraged to share photos and comments using the hash-tag #DogRiverTour. Selected photos and comments will be posted to Corner Gas’s visitor’s gallery on cornergas.com.
