At about 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, the city police received a report of a vehicle that had just struck a residence on 10th Street. As a result of that investigation and the assistance of the general public a second scene was located where what is believed to be the same suspect vehicle struck a business. The driver fled on foot and was arrested a short distance away.
At this time the 28-year-old male driver is facing charges of refusing to take a breath test, impaired driving, resisting arrest and breach of a court order. The matter is still under investigation. The accused will be making a court appearance. One Weyburn police member received minor injuries as a result of making the arrest.
The Weyburn Police Service, in conjunction with the Weyburn RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services, conducted a series of checkstops within the community on Saturday. In excess of 300 vehicles were checked resulting in only three charges of driving an unregistered vehicle.
The members of the Weyburn Police Service will continue to be out in force checking for drinking drivers and other infractions during the next weeks.
The Weyburn Police Service assisted the Weyburn EMS with regards to a suicidal 17-year-old male threatening to harm himself with a knife on Dec. 8. The youth was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital where he was later discharged to the care of his family.
A 62-year-old female fell victim to yet another Internet scam on Dec. 9. In this scam the victim received what appeared to be a legitimate e-mail from her banking institution advising her of a security breach. When she followed the instructions to rectify the issue she later learned that her account had been accessed and funds were missing. The financial institution has since returned the money to her account.
The Weyburn Police Service received a report that between 1 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 9 a fence in the 200 block of 11th Street had been damaged by a vehicle which fled the scene. Anyone having information on this is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or the Weyburn Police.
The Weyburn Police Service received a call on Dec 9 from a friend concerned that her 15-year-old friend was suicidal and had taken an overdose of medication. The youth was located and left in the care of her family.
City police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence between a 35-year-old male and a 49-year-old female on Dec. 10. As a result of police involvement the 35-year-old male agreed to go to bed. Alcohol was a contributing factor. There were no further incidents.
Police received a report from a 27-year-old female that she had been assaulted by a 26-year-old male whom she once had a relationship with on Dec. 10. As a result of the investigation the 26-year-old male has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of uttering threats. He will be making a court appearance.
City police received a complaint that a number of vehicles in the 100 block of Ash Drive had been tampered with on Thursday. Anyone who may have information on this matter is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or the Crime Stoppers tips line.
Police received a report of a vehicle/pedestrian collision on Government Road and Souris Avenue on Thursday. While crossing the street a 61-year-old male victim was struck. He received only a skinned hand and required no medical attention. No charges will be laid.
City police are investigating a report of erratic driving on the City Centre mall lot on Thursday. About 11:05 p.m., cleaning staff heard a vehicle driving erratically in the parking lot spinning its tires. As a result a spray of rocks shattered out a window. Anyone having information on this matter is asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
Police responded to a report on Railway Avenue and 11th Street of a hit-and-run vehicle collision on Thursday, where a SaskPower light standard had been knocked down creating a hazard. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a 2009-2013 white GMC truck.
The Weyburn police were called to a report of a fight at a local pub on Sunday. Upon arrival the incident was over. The altercation was between a 41-year-old male and a 30-year-old male. A 36-year-old male tried to step in to break up the fight which resulted in him getting struck as well. The matter is still under investigation.
