The Envision Counselling and Support Centre has announced they are expanding their walk-in counselling services to Oxbow, joining services already available in Estevan and Weyburn.
This service was made possible thanks to a collaboration with Family Services Saskatchewan, and an investment from the Government of Saskatchewan.
Envision Counselling first provided Walk-In Counselling in Estevan and Weyburn in May 2019, and noticed a significant rise in those seeking immediate counselling services as public awareness grew.
“If a person is in crisis, they need to see someone right away,” said Envision executive director Christa Daku. “Demand for mental health services has increased steadily over time and people looking for assistance often experience barriers to timely, affordable care. The goal of walk-in counselling is to alleviate some of those barriers.”
Nobel HSSE Management Ltd. made the expansion of Walk-In Counselling services to Oxbow possible. Nobel agreed to partner with Envision Counselling by offering office space in their building starting in March.
“We are fortunate to be able to expand walk-in counselling to Oxbow and continue to provide support for those in rural areas,” says Daku. “This new partnership with Nobel is a great opportunity for us as we grow as a non-profit.”
Walk-in counselling is a free, immediate, accessible form of brief counselling. People can drop-in for a one-hour session without an appointment. The services are provided by a qualified counsellor who also connects people to the community and health services they might need.
Starting March 9, walk-in counselling will be offered at Nobel on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-in counselling can also be found at the Salvation Army in Weyburn on Tuesdays and Fridays and at the Salvation Army in Estevan on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Any schedule changes can be found on Envision’s website and Facebook page.
A registration period will be held from 10-11 a.m. each day where individuals can sign-up to guarantee a spot to see a counsellor. If an individual arrives outside of the sign-up period and the counsellor is available, they will be seen.
