ESTEVAN - There will be a greater police presence in the southwest area of Estevan on Tuesday.
The Estevan and Weyburn Police Services Joint Tactical Support Teams are planning a tactical training exercise at a location in the 1900-block of First Street on Tuesday. The training will begin in the morning and end at 4 p.m.
The EPS says people should not be alarmed of the large police presence in the area as this is a planned event and there is no need for public concern. Some simunition rounds (blanks) will be used during the exercise which may be heard nearby.
In other recent EPS news, police received a complaint of assault on Monday. The assault was reported to have occurred some time ago. The matter may also include a criminal harassment investigation.
Police received a request for a well-being check on an Estevan male. The male was located and connected to other community services in Estevan by the Police and Crisis Team.
Members received a report of an attempted scam. The complainant received correspondence in relation to a life insurance package. The EPS says the matter is likely a scam and is still under investigation.
A traffic stop was initiated with a driver due to the automatic licence plate reader in the patrol car indicating that the registered owner of the vehicle was in fact a suspended driver. The driver was ticketed under the Traffic Safety Act and issued a court date in January.
