Three people were placed under arrest on Dec. 23 following investigations conducted by the Estevan Police Service.
A break, enter and theft incident in a garage in the Westview area of the city resulted in two men being arrested at a local motel following police follow-up.
Police placed the two in custody pending a show cause hearing in provincial court in Regina.
During their investigation, EPS members learned the stolen property had been sold before the two men were arrested. As a result of this knowledge, police obtained a search warrant on a separate residence in the central part of the city and subsequently arrested a third man who was then charged with being in possession of stolen property. He was later released on conditions following an appearance before a justice-of-peace. He now has a January court date.
A man who was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants turned himself into police on Dec. 23. He was remanded in custody pending a court date.
The evening shift of Dec. 23 turned out to be fairly busy for EPS members. Two prisoners placed in their care by dayshift members were released on conditions as was the man who had been placed under arrest and was being prepared to be released under conditions.
Three men were arrested in the latter part of the evening as a result of a routine traffic stop within the city. The three were taken to the police station as part of a drug investigation where two of them were arrested for being in possession of cocaine, while the third was prepared to appear before a justice-of-peace before being released after being charged with being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
On Dec. 27, EPS members were called to a local restaurant in response to a report of a porcupine being spotted close to a tree in the parking lot. The animal was removed from the property and later released in a more natural environment in the rural area.
While police were engaged in an interview with the driver of a vehicle following a traffic stop on Dec. 27, the officer conducting the interview noted two long guns that were wrapped up on the rear seat of the vehicle. Neither of the men in the vehicle had a licence for the firearms so both were arrested and charged accordingly. The two now have a March 5 court date scheduled.
