The zone that includes Estevan now has the fewest active number of COVID-19 cases in the province.

According to information on the Government of Saskatchewan’s website on Thursday afternoon, Southeast Zone 4 is down to four active cases, compared to 14 on Wednesday. Ten more people from this zone are now listed as recovered.

Southeast Zone 4 is also one of only three subzones in the province with fewer than 10 active cases. Central East Zone 4 and Central West Zone 2 each have seven.

A total of 31,326 people reside in Southeast Zone 4, making it the sixth-most populous zone in the province.

As for the southeast region, there have been 357 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed since mid-March, an increase of eight from Wednesday, while 199 people have recovered from the disease, an increase of 20 from the previous day.

There are 151 active cases in the region.

Seven people are currently in hospital in the southeast, down eight from Wednesday. The number of southeast residents who have died from the disease remains at seven.

A total of 20,014 COVID tests have been administered in southeast Saskatchewan in the past nine months. A total of 148 tests occurred Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Health, it is anticipated that the number of cases designated as “active” will decline as older cases are reviewed and potentially shifted to recovered status. This work is ongoing.
