February programs for all ages at the Weyburn library

The Weyburn Public Library has a wide variety of programs and events in the month of February for all ages and interests. For children, programs range from gaming and floor curling to cooking and music.

The Weyburn Public Library has a wide variety of programs and events in the month of February for all ages and interests.

For children, programs range from gaming and floor curling to cooking and music. For those into gaming, adventure gaming will be held on two Wednesdays, Feb. 5 and 12, after school for those aged seven to 12, and Sunday gaming will be held on Feb. 9 and 16 at 2 p.m. An adventure gaming tournament will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 3:45 to 5 p.m., featuring Super Mario Kart, with prizes available.

For those wanting to do some cooking, a kids cooking class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11 after school for those aged six to eight, and Junior Chef will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for those aged nine to 12. At both classes, they are making heart-shaped pastries.

Children can learn about coding with Sphero robots on Thursday, Feb. 13 from 4 to 5 p.m., for those aged eight to 12, and floor curling will be held on Monday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m., for children aged 10 to 14 years.

There are a number of family-friendly activities, including two sessions of the Lego Club, on Sunday, Feb. 2, and during the February break on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. on both days.

In addition, an afternoon of winter fun will be held, weather permitting, on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. for all ages, with activities in the back yard including snow shoeing, snow sculptures, painting and more.

A Valentine’s bingo will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for all ages, starting at 7 p.m.

During the February break, there will be a Creative Music session on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m., with various instruments set up to try, and a session of Games Galore is set for Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m., with games including giant Jenga, Lego, board games, Sphero, Code and Go Mouse, and more.

A teen and adult session of floor curling is set for Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m., and the teen book club will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. This month, teens will be making journals to record comments, thoughts or art work about books or movies based in science fiction or fantasy.

A teen art class will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m., where the project will be to make shelf signs, and a teen cooking club will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m., where they will make pumpkin pancakes.

An adult cooking class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with sessions set at 2:30 or 6:30 p.m., making Chinese dumpling soup.

An adult watercolour painting class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, with two sessions, at 2:30 or 6:30 p.m., where the project will be to paint winter birds.

The adult book club meets on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m., where the discussion will be on the book, “Educated” by Tara Westover. The book in March will be “Universal Harvester” by John Darnielle, and copies are available to be picked up at the front desk or through e-resources.

For those who enjoy crafting, there are sessions where they will be upcycling old blue jeans, with the group to make jean bags on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m.; to make pot holders and pot handle covers on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m., and to create storage bins on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
