The Saskatchewan Southeast Enterprise Region (SSEER) will be putting on two forums in January of interest to businesses and municipalities in the region.

The first, to be held on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Weyburn Legion Hall, is on the International Trade-Transportation Corridor, and gets underway at 7 p.m.

The forum will look at the potential opportunities and possibilities for trade and transportation on the Highway 39/6 corridor from North Portal up to Regina.

Many lobby efforts have been made to twin the highway, due to the high volume of heavy traffic, in particular heavy trucks, and especially since the explosion of oilfield activities around the Bakken zone in the southeast area.

The purpose of the forum, says SSEER, "is to share information about transportation issues and opportunities in southeast Saskatchewan and to discuss the economic development benefits of working together to create a major international trade and transportation corridor from the U.S., up through North Portal up to Regina on Highway 39-6.

By focussing on this corridor, SSEER hopes to foster new economic opportunities for the province, for business and industry as well as the communities located along the highway corridor.

The second forum is a regional water system information session to be held in Midale on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Midale Recreation Hall, starting at 7 p.m.

Midale has expressed a need to have proper water upgrades in order to expand with new homes and businesses in the community.

The town has invited other municipalities in the area to attend the open house to explore the concept of a regional water line, with the hope of getting both federal and provincial support, if there is sufficient interest.

The information will include what will be needed and considered when creating, administering and maintaining a regional water supply.

For more information or to register for either session, interested parties are asked to contact Christine Jones at the SSEER office in Estevan.
