Four new cases of COVID-19 in Estevan’s South East Zone 4; active cases continue to drop

The other new case in the South East region is in Zone 1, which is northwest of Zone 4.

There are 116 new cases, 222 recoveries and one death to report in Saskatchewan on May 23. The 116 new cases of COVID-19 bring the provincial total to 45,605 cases.

The one new death is reported in the 80+ age group from the South East zone. Forty-seven people with COVID-19 have died in the South East since the pandemic began, and 527 people with COVID have died in Saskatchewan.

The other new cases are located in the following zones: Far North West, 7; Far North East, 1; North West, 7; North Central, 11; Saskatoon, 41; Central West, 2; Central East, 18; Regina, 17; South West, 5; and South Central, 1; and South East, 5.

Recoveries total 43,416. Fourteen new recoveries are from the South East region.

A total of 1,662 cases are considered active, including 142 from the South East.

There are 124 people in hospital, including three in the South East, down one from May 22.  Ninety-seven people are receiving inpatient care and 27 people are in intensive care.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 case number is 152 (12.4 new cases per 100,000).

There were 2,507 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on May 22, including 91 in the South East.

An additional 11,004 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 656,388.  Included in the total is 821 new doses for the South East.

Seventy-six per cent of those over the age of 40 have received their first dose. Sixty-nine per cent of those 30+ have received their first dose. Sixty-three per cent of those 18+ have received their first dose.
